Francesc Torres // The twentieth century in colours // 22.09.11-29.11.11

The exhibition of Francesc Torres in Raíña Lupa is titled The twentieth century in color, and shows the images used as projection installation Paths of Gloryheld at the State University of New York in 1985.

The work is made up of black and white photographs of documentary film in 16 mm of twentieth-century conflicts. The process used by Francesc Torres was the move to video movie this film, later to photograph directly from the screen. Once photographed, the images were positivated on photographic film in black and white, although some were left in negative, its graphic quality, and all were operated using Indian ink, dye marker and pastries, among other means.

These positive handled become the originals used in this series, edited by Raíña Lupa in 2010. Five of the photographs have been edited in Pearl Hahnemuhle paper, while the others are presented in slide format. At the end of the process we find, in the words of Francesc Torres, “a result that exists in the demilitarized zone between photography, video, painting, drawing and printmaking.”
