Dan Walsh // Libros y obra sobre papel // 23.04.09-23.05.09

The paintings and books of Dan Walsh maintain a minimalistic character in which the reduction to an almost perfect geometry is conjugated with the human touch demonstrated in each trace. In both paintings and books, Dan Walsh utilises perspective and line to give the sensation that his surfaces move forward and backward at the same time, which can provoke alternate feelings of gravity and ingravity.

It has been said that his paintings, in big scale format, provoke that grandeur that surrounds us and beats around us, emphasized by placing them at the height of our eyes.  Something similar happens when we have one of his artist’s books in our hands; Architectures of the Book, with very few samples, in which he organises spaces as prototypes and sketches of the future paintings.

The advantage of the three dimensions and the mobility of its parts, as well as the continuity of the flat spaces, allows him to create “real” visual and tactile games that will later on become illusory when taken to the canvas. It is this tridimensional quality given by the books the reason why Walsh creates and works on his paintings through the realisation of an artist’s book, which allows him to develop a discourse of forms and colours that evolve and move, showing us an infinity of final answers which are compatible.

With his books we are able to move forward or backward in a straight manner, or jump from one point to another inside the constructive discourse. Proving the multiple spacial variables created by the vanes, the colour lines, the chromatic games and the constructions-deconstructions of geometrical elements.

An entire multidimensional world i the palm of your hand.
